Another great segment about this film was in the scene following the deaths of Blaine (Jesse Ventura) and Hawkins (Shane Black). While the team is taking a rest and Mac and Billy give their witness accounts and ideas on what they saw and how frightened they are, Dutch doesn't disregard their fears as paranoia or a psyop, but takes their concerns seriously and realizes that they're up against a deadly foe that killed Hopper and his green beret unit, and when his unit of hardened and trained killers are that terrified, it's to be taken seriously.

Thank you for your perspective on my favourite Bond film - and my favourite Bond actor. Peter Hunt said, “I wanted this to be my James Bond film. My style, no one else’s.” He loved the novel, and had the clearest sense of Ian Fleming’s world. Notice that Q has a smaller part; Hunt was determined to avoid gadgets (aside from the safecracker/photocopier). Bond relies more on his mental and physical abilities and, as you point out, is more human. George Lazenby was superb and no, I did not miss Sean Connery one bit. From the fight on the beach and “This never happened to the other fellow,” I knew I was off on a grand adventure! Hunt’s fidelity to the novel included the tragic ending. In fact, Lazenby’s words are taken directly from the book. Connery would not have done better - certainly not Moore!

Ross, i think you would like brazilian werewolf stories. Our werewolves are called that way because it's the vocabulary the colonizers brought from europe, but if you read or watch the reports, people always say it was a "big hairy thing that looked something like a dog, a bear or other quadrupedal being, but looked... wrong, unnatural". The classic legend tells that on the night from thursday to friday (yeah our werewolves are weekly, god help us) the werewolf runs away to where animals sleep to transform, and then transforms into a horrible chimera mixing the likeness of all the animals that slept on that spot. It's really terrifying, but an awesome look for a monster.

Wow. Your ranking is sooo spot on. Lazenby's performance is so underrated. He was the most "real" "human" Bonds for me. I like him up there with Connery and Brosnan. Most of my favorites are Connery. But I love On Her Majesty's Secret Service which doesn't have too much time spent in scenes that annoy me. I don't disagree with you. I am not a fan of Craig or Dalton whose brooding, depressed, humorless, and non suave Bonds have no appeal to me. So I rank their movies much lower, as good as some of the Craig movies were.

the thing i disagree with you about pacific rim is about the humans. As in the older films, not only were the humans ACTUALLY INTERESTING, and they didnt kill off the literal best character of the film for the most bland man ever, they didnt show action only to immediatly cut away from it. as well as making the little parts where there's godzilla more interesting. even then, when they werent showing godzilla they were showing any other monster doing his thing. little screentime also needs great presentation, or interesting human characters
